Coorg is beautiful hill country renowned for its coffee and spice plantations, encircled by thick forests of rosewood and sandalwood. Amidst the hills and valleys live the tall and sinewy Kodagu people with their martial spirit, colourful costumes and culture. Fiercely independent, these warrior planter clans were never conquered by either Tipu Sultan or the British and, to this day, the Kodavas retain the privilege of carrying firearms without a license.
